Official shoulder sleeve insignia of the 68th SAB
The brigade was established on March 6, 2022 as the 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The unit is made up of volunteers answering the call at the very beginning of thre russian invasion of Ukraine. Already on March 24, the brigade's soldiers courageously met the enemy on the approaches to Vuhledar.
For 15 months, the 68th Jaeger continuously held the defense on the front lines of the Kurakhiv direction. The soldiers selflessly defended against an overwhelming enemy force, but pushed back and in June 2023, liberated the Blagodatne village in the Donetsk region and a several other Ukrainian territories.
Thanks to successful assault operations in the summer of 2023, the Wolverines—a nickname gained in battle and reflected on our sleeve patch—liberated the village of Nadiya in the Luhansk region and de-occupied part of the Ukrainian territories in the Kharkiv Oblast.
These days the brigade is fighting on the front line of the Pokrovsky direction, holding back one of the most powerful Russian offensives.
The 68th proudly bears the name of Oleksa Dovbush, the most famous leader of the Carpathian Opryshky movement of the 18th century.
In March 2026, the brigade was integrated into the elite of the Ukrainian Army - the Air Assault Forces—thus becoming the 68th Separate Airmobile Brigade.
During the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine, Valerii served in the 68th Jaeger Brigade. In October 2023, he led an assault group to seize the enemy’s position in the Luhansk Oblast.
Under heavy fire, he destroyed the firing point with hand grenades and was the first to enter the position where he neutralized 5 enemies with a machine gun.
However, as a result of an enemy grenade’s explosion, Valerii suffered severe shrapnel wounds. He was evacuated from the battlefield but lost his hands due to the injuries.
Served in the 68th Jaeger Brigade from the day of its creation, was the chief sergeant of the company. At the end of March 2024, he led the reinforcement group, which during the storming of Semenivka of the Donetsk region, following the assault groups, cleaned the area and buildings from the remains of the occupiers.
In the course of sporadic clashes, he personally neutralized 10 enemies with automatic fire. However, on April 1, the enemy detected the group and struck with an FPV drone. Vitaly covered his brothers, but was wounded and died on the spot.
Began his combat career in the 68th brigade as a grenade launcher. On April 10, 2023 he was transferred to the UBAK (strike combat aviation complexes) company, becoming one of the founders of the “Dovbush Hornets” unit. He was the first to begin destroying the enemy using drone drops and later passed on his knowledge and experience to newly arrived fighters.
He participated in the counteroffensive near the village of Blagodatne, Donetsk region, and carried out combat missions around Raihorodka and Novoyehorivka of Luhansk region. On October 18, 2024, he received fatal injuries from an enemy FPV drone in the Pokrovsk direction.
Dear Ukraine, I swore loyalty to you and your people!
In the Jaeger Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, I have the honor to prove my love and courage, to be worthy of your heroes, and to justify the faith of Ukrainians in our army.
I will zealously defend our people and the beautiful land!
Let me, like a brave wolverine, demonstrate the firmness of my will, the raging fire of my strength and the coldness of my mind in the Jaeger Brigade.
I will become an example and a reliable support for my brothers — valiant wolverines, so that together we can courageously protect the people of our state.
Let our black soil absorb the enemies in abundance, and for me, let it become a strong support.
Let the trees become our wall and palisade against the invaders.
Show the whole oathLet the wrong that possesses the enemy destroy them from the inside like poison, and let the holy truth in my heart strengthen my spirit and body.
Because Ukraine was, is and will stand thanks to the brave heroes who defend it, and let their zeal from ancient times and to this day be passed on to me.
I myself will become a worthy descendant of Oleksa Dovbush
and I will write a new history of victories for future generations of Ukrainians.
Like a brave wolverine, I will harden my will, quell my fear and will not hesitate to serve the people of Ukraine!
In the hellish war and in the gained victory, I will worthily represent the wolverine Jaegers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from now on and throughout my life.
Glory to Ukraine!
